有的动词既可接不定式作宾语，也可接动名词作宾语，且含义相同。这类动词主要有like(喜欢)，love(喜欢)，hate(憎恨)，prefer(宁可)，begin(开始)，start(开始)，continue(继续)，can’t bear(不能忍受)，bother(麻烦)，attempt(试图)，cease(停止)等。如：

He likes travelling [to travel] alone. 他喜欢单独旅行。

The kids all love playing computer games. 孩子们都喜欢玩电脑游戏。

He simply loves finding [to find] mistakes. 他就是喜欢找茬儿。

Some people hate working [to work] in the early morning. 有些人不爱在清晨工作。

Then he began telling [to tell] us a story. 然后他开始给我们讲故事。

Hearing the news she started crying [to cry]. 一听到这消息，她就开始哭了起来。

The baby continued to cry [crying] all night. 这孩子哭了一整夜。

I can’t bear living [to live] alone. 一个人独居我受不了。

Don’t bother to lock [locking] the door. 别费事锁门了。

Don’t attempt to do [doing] it by yourself. 不要企图一个人去做这件事。

The buses have ceased to run [running]. 公共汽车已经停止行驶。

注意，当 like, love, hate, prefer 与 would, should 连用时，其后只能接不定式，不能接动名词――因为这样用时，它是表示特定的想法，而非一般性喜好。如：

He’d like to be a teacher. 他希望当教师。

I’d love to have a room of my own. 我想有一个自己的房间。

另外，当begin, cease, continue, start等动词本身为-ing形式时，其后通常要用不定式，不用动名词，因为两个-ing形式的重复让人听起来会觉得别扭。如：

I’m beginning to feel better, thank you. 我渐渐感到好些了，谢谢你。
