So Neil, word round the office is that you had quite an exciting weekend!

How exciting! I didn’t think that would be your kind of thing.

OK, fair point.

It has been a long time since I’ve been rock climbing, but I used to go all the time.
我有一段时间没去攀岩了，不过我以前经常去。
I may not have the stamina any more, but I still have the technique.
我可能耐力不行了，不过技能还在。
It was like riding a bike.
这就像“riding a bike”。
What? You rode a bike while climbing?
什么？你攀岩的时候骑自行车？
Or did you carry the bike up with you?
还是说你扛着自行车往上爬？
What are you talking about, Neil?!
你在说什么呢，尼尔？！
No, I was struggling to pull myself up the rocks, never mind a bike!
不是的，我都要竭尽全力让自己爬上去，更别提自行车了！
What I meant is that it’s a skill I will always have and always remember.
我的意思是攀岩是一项我会一直掌握，而且不会忘的技能。
So we can say ‘It’s like riding a bike’ to mean that once you learn how to do something, you never forget it.
所以，我们可以用“It’s like riding a bike.”来表示“如果你学会了某件事，就不会再忘记”。
Let’s take a look at some more examples.
我们来听几个例句吧。
Though it’s been a while since I made a video, I managed to do it easily – it was like riding a bike.

I used to do a lot of baking with my mother as a child, and recently I’ve got back in to it. It’s like riding a bike really.

It's used when we want to say that once you learn how to do something, you never forget it.

So Neil said that rock climbing, an activity he used to do all the time, was like riding a bike.

That’s right, Feifei – it was difficult because it was tiring, but I remembered with ease how to tie the ropes and the best techniques.

The idea is that once you have learnt to do something once, like riding a bike, you will never forget that skill.
